I do not know what is going on with stores lately. I go, spend a few hundred a week on food. So today, I was trying to return housecoats for Gert that were never worn and wound care supplies. Everything was bought during sales. $66.34 was on receipts 100 days out exactly so it had to go on a gift card. The manager said I have to be flagged and cannot do any returns for the next two years. I never do returns, so I am annoyed by this on principle.
So just a warning, watch dates when doing returns for a deceased person.
I know. You’re right. Expired food is gross 🤮.
By discount, I mean the stores that specifically sells food past the expiration date. We have a few stores like that in lower income areas. They sell baked goods and bread, things like that.
In other parts of Louisiana they do have small grocery stores that sell expired foods. Personally, I feel that it should be illegal to sell it.
It’s interesting though, I watched a segment on a television show that said that it was okay to eat canned foods past the expiration date if they still smelled and tasted good. I am not going to take that chance. I throw it away.
Yes, people do try to donate expired food to the food banks. It’s crazy. I like that some groceries here have bags of food for a family meal at a set price ready to donate.
Dollar stores are everywhere now! I am like you and Stacy, no matter what store I am in, I check all of the expiration dates.
Stores shouldn’t have food items that are expired on the shelves and charge full price for them.
I remember watching a program on television that said certain foods were still good if they were past their expiration dates. Maybe they are but I am not going to buy them.
Stacy, I think you are sending them the best message by not shopping there anymore. If enough people do this, I bet they will stop telling people what to buy.
I have never been in a store where they told me what to purchase. I always look at expiration dates and buy the newest items.
I wouldn’t shop at that store anymore. Yeah, I agree with going to a competitor
I miss pre covid where I could shop at 3 or 4 in the morning to avoid crowds.
I got scolded in the same store because I wont buy expired items. I shop once a week. I buy the precut salad with the furthest out date and was told you need to take from the front of the display. I was picking up tortilla chips and the front of the display expired 11-30-22. I may be odd but I feel I earn my money and should be able to buy what I want.
The store sent me a survey to fill out and I was honest. At this point even though Kroger is a little more expensive, I will spend my money there due to customer service.
I recently bought a couple of blouses on sale and they had a sign saying that there was only a 15 day return policy on sale items.
Even regular priced items must be returned sooner than they were in the past.
