She lived with my sister for a couple of years and did the same thing and it drove her crazy. I love my mother so much but it is really starting to affect me. I need the positives right now in my life and I feel like someone has kicked me and I am full time care giver for her. Thanks!

Try ear plugs every time she starts. My DH is sensitive to noise, carries ear plugs all the time, and puts them in if he is with a grandchild or somewhere public with other high pitched squealing (not always children). He is quite discreet about it. You could be discreet if you use them just for your own sake, or make it obvious as an alternative to getting up and walking away.

Would she be able to grasp poking fun, then changing the subject? done enough times to discourage it? Maybe something like: 'That was mother's Daily Bowel Report, now on to the Weather'.. or to someone else at table 'So how was your day?' .. or 'mother, would you save your Bowel Woes & Reports for when we are not eating? thanks!' and the whole family cheer!? repeatedly whenever she starts that.

If that doesn't/won't work, then firmly interrupt her immediately within the first words out of her mouth, change the subject to re-direct her focus off of her bowels and food, and keep ignoring it.

Probably can't do much. My Mother told me many years ago that when she went to Senior Citizens, that is all they talked about!

Most elders are fixated on their bowels. Eat your meals separately, if she starts. Try some soothing music at meal time such as classical or other music she might like. Hope things get better for you.

She can talk but you don’t have to listen. If she won’t comply to you asking her to stop the discussion then walk away everytime she starts the talk. Give it no attention at all. Eat your meals in another room if needed. Peace is needed and that may be the only way to get it
