The songs other posters have named aren't even remotely familiar to me. Guess that really dates me!
Yay! For the 60’s. Early seventies were good but later 70’s had horrible music.
You mentioned folk music. Ahhh, the 60’s and early 70’s Were you a Joni Mitchell fan? Joan Biaz? Dylan? Peter, Paul & Mary? Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young? Simon and Garfunkel? So many others...
WHAT is the title of the 'worst song ever' that has the lyrics "I been to the desert on a horse with no name, it felt good to be out of the rain, In the desert you can't remember your name.." Ok, I will quit torturing you.

If Alexa is just playing 70's pop, and "You light up my life' comes on I yell at her to SKIP THAT SONG.
My DH is a HUGE Bob Dylan fan--so we saw him in concert 2 years ago. I still have a headache. You could not decipher what he was singing---and the lady next to me said "He's wearing sweatpants from Costco" and by darn, he was! The "Kirkland" label was on the waistband.
I remember one concert when Billy Joel was the warmup for Seals and Croft.
I can't HELP that the 70's were my teen years and so many songs spoke to that angsty teen emotions. Some songs remind me of long past loves and if I hear them now---I'm back in '75, madly in love with the boy du jour. "I can't Stop That Feeling"
ANYTHING that started out with the 'ooga chakka, ooga chakka' beat was awesome :)
I am one of those people too. I can tell you who I was with and what I was doing when a song plays.
Memories...
I saw Billy Joel in high school with my boyfriend. He promised to take me. Well, I was really looking forward to going and I asked him what time should I be ready for him to pick me up. He tells me that he forgot to buy the tickets! I was upset.
I took off on my bicycle to console myself with a new album from my neighborhood record shop.
As I was browsing, a friend of the cashier came in with two Joel tickets that he won on the radio. He wanted to sell them to the employee. The cashier could not go. I went up to him and asked him to sell them to me. He told me the price.
I didn’t have that much money. He said, “How much do you have?” I told him the amount of money that I had on me and he said no he would not sell at that price because it wasn’t the ticket value.
I reminded him that he got them for free because he won them. The cashier told him to reconsider and sell them to me. He finally did sell them to me.
I called my boyfriend and we went to the concert. When we got to the third row he said, “Wow, great seats!” The usher didn’t stop until the first row! My boyfriend was glad that he forgot to buy the tickets because I scored first row seats and Leo Kottke warmed up for Billy Joel.
This was at Theatre for the Performing Arts which has been renamed to Mahalia Jackson Theatre.
I remember Seals and Croft, specifically, Unborn Child. My friend became pregnant and her dad flew her to NY for an illegal abortion.
Abortion became legal the next year. She did not want to have an abortion but they threatened to disown her if she wouldn’t.
Times were different then, she would have been expelled from school and she was a straight A student.
Her mom and dad were furious about her pregnancy. They wouldn’t let her have her child to place for adoption. They told her to get an abortion or live on the street. She was scared and agreed to the abortion.
Anyway, Unborn Child always made me cry thinking of what my friend went through.
Similar cruel slanders have been levelled at "Puff the Magic Dragon," the Magic Roundabout, and certainly Captain Pugwash. The rumours of hidden messages were started by stoned students with nothing better to do than ruin children's entertainment.

How about Minnie Riverton’s “Loving You”? That high note is enough to split an eardrum. But then, that would be merciful in this songs case.
I really dislike the song Love Shack. It sounds like an ugly mismatched patchwork put together by a rowdy group of no-talent people who decided to take turn making up lines.
Drunk 1: Love shack, baby love shack
Drunk 2: I'm headin' down the Atlanta highway, lookin' for the love getaway
Drunk 3: (gulp! belch!) to the love shack...
You can mix and match the lines of the song and it will still sound the same.
My vote for the 80’s is Don’t Worry, Be Happy.
I can tell you you I couldn’t listen to sing in my house on television in the 90’s, Barney and Friends. Oh my gosh, No Way! Sesame Street was great but I couldn’t stomach my children watching Barney. His voice drove me insane!

My DH was OS & missed the worst of the radio play for that one so I just enlightened him. 🤣😜😭🤮

Generation X: Born 1965-1980 (38-53 years old)
Millennials: Born 1981-1996 (22-37 years old).
Post-Millennials: Born 1997-Present (0-21 years old).
Is that accurate? Where is the "Sandwich Generation?"
