Unfortunately what others have stated about “at will” rights of employers is correct. I know from experience how humiliating getting fired from a job is...you feel like crap.

However, you have to move forward. You won’t win any lawsuit for unlawful termination if you live in an “at will” state. There are few circumstances where you can fight it (sexual harassment for one) but I say let that go. You have no recourse.

File for unemployment as you are probably eligible. When you file they will ask you questions about the reason for termination and be truthful. My employer did not fight it and I did get unemployment.

So....update that resume and apply for other positions. There are many small businesses that need experienced help. Also, I believe that more seniors are being hired these days because usually they prove to be dependable workers with good values & work habits.

Pull yourself up by the boot strings and move forward. You don’t say what your profession is but I am sure you will find another job but realize it may take time.

Subscribe to internet job searches like indeed.com. You can choose what area to search in and it’s very easy to use.

I completely understand how you feel. And from my experience being terminated I can tell you that it opened me up to different areas of my field & forced me to make a change I was scared to make. I was 54 back then. Took me 4 months to get another job but I absolutely loved my new job. Looking back (that was 7 yrs ago) getting fired was the best thing that happened to me (career wise).

Every gray cloud has a silver lining. I hope you find yours.

Berlioz, where you working for an Agency, or were your working self-employed for a client?

I see from your profile that your husband had Alzheimer's for 22 years, is that correct or am I mis-reading this?

Sorry you have lost your job. The truth is that in an at will state you can be fired because they think you have wonderful eyelashes. Often they will not GIVE a reason, because this opens things up to frivolous law suits and to argument. They often will just simply let you go and that is whether you work in airplane factory or elder care. I would take those great references and I would get another job. People on site are just crying out for good help. Wishing you good luck.

AZ is an "at will" state meaning they can fire you without a reason. There are some exceptions one being if you have a contract. Make sure u get those references. Here is an article I found.

You could go to the labor board. But as an "at will" state not sure what they could do. Your company is not obliged in helping u get a job. If they have other sites, you could ask if there are any openings there.

So sorry about losing ur job. Put in for that unemployment. Sed if unemployment offers any training. Testing to see where your skills would fit in. Don't pigeon hole yourself. My first job was billing and some book keeping. I was receptionist for breaks, PT and vacations mainly answering phones. My next job I got because I had been a receptionist. I worked up to accts receivable and keeping books. Next job I was hired for my accts receivable background. Worked into collections.
