If you've seen my current post my sister is leaving the hospital and going to a rehab faculity. I was given a list to choose from. I try to pick places I can get to via public transportation (I'll still have to see her on the weekends they are still too far away to make daily visits with me working in Queen and the facuilty in Brooklyn)
I have picked out several but the reviews are confusing. I find one with a list of good reviews then I get one that says 'stay away. Don't put your relative here'. There were two that was the same time period (two weeks) one was good and one was bad.
So how much should I trust the reviews? (don't have the time to go and see any of them in person since my choices are due Tuesday) I would think the current ones are more truthful (if they had problems 3 years ago but no current bad reviews that they must had resolved the problems)
Any advice will be welcome. Thanks.

It was a nightmare. Key personnel missing, high turnover, no backup, no oversight or staff resources for the ones who were there.
They did have excellent PT and OT therapist and a large nice clean room. I tried to make do in spite of a very rough start. The problems didn’t stop. My mom ended up back in ICU and then to a hospital acute rehab.
The reviews used at multi care level campuses may be for the private pay luxury rooms and not the Medicare paid rehab portion which in my mom’s rehab were literally in the basement.
I preferred hospital rehabs and then acute physical therapy rehabs not connected with nursing homes.

They give you a list of questions that generate the reviews. Very slanted to create good reviews, no questions about anything that makes for a good stay or not, just about individual caregivers, not administration, facility or services.
If possible always use personal references.

The list was given to the SW who came by later that day. They're now looking for an opening and will contact me when they have one.
I did go with facilities that had more good reviews than bad ones. (i.e. 5 reviews, 4 good 1 bad) and paid more attention to current ones than reviews 5 years old or older.
Simply the best.
Apply as early as possible to get in,,.being the best the demand is pretty high.
I was so impressed with their work that I later worked for a few months as a physical therapy assistant there. Got aide training there. Did volunteer work there.

the Medicare 1-5 star rating system can be a source of incident reports but is mainly stats and doesn't give you a feel for the place
also, try to visit at two different times
places look much different in the activity of day than in the evening
if buzzers are going off and no one is responding then stay away
