No solution, but it brings back memories. My husband Coy had dementia. Our son lived with us to help out. One day Coy flushed an incontinence pad down the toilet, making, of course, a fine mess. I looked at it, sighed deeply, and said, "Let me help you finish getting dressed, dear, so we can go to that anniversary party." To my son (a handyman by trade) "If you can't fix this in a reasonable length of time, call a plumber. Here is a signed check you can use for a plumber if necessary." And off Coy and I went to the party!

For us it only happened once. Coy was pretty lucid most of the time. And I usually helped him in the bathroom. Maybe helping in the bathroom is the best you can hope for. Often these fixations don't last long. Let's hope the next one isn't even more troublesome!

There are locks for toilet lids - originally designed to keep toddlers out - but chances are granny might get past it but it may be worth a try. Granny will likely we offended in having to ask someone to unlock the toilet for her but at least you'll be prepared for what may follow.

Some people disconnect the chain inside the toilet tank so it won't flush. You can try to limit the amount of toilet paper available, but if she is flushing her incontinence products the only other solution would be to remove the door locks and be there to supervise her in the bathroom.
