Im going through the process right now. We have a " service officer" from the va helping us. I gave him all the information and he sent it all in for us. We've now been approved. Just wondering how long before we hear anything else. And do they give you the benefits from the day you filed or the day you were approved? Not sure about that.
I used a law firm specializing in this and Medicaid , here in Texas called Livens Lawfirm.im sure they are others, knowing the military its best to pay the cost here because the benefits will surely outweigh this. It was for my mother.
my experience working with the VA has not been good. They try, but one hand does not know what the other hand is doing. Most people find out they need to get some outside help. Had we done that upfront, we would have saved thousands of dollars in benefits we missed out on as the VA people we talked to didn't even know about them.
Hi! There are many places that can help, like the American Legion. I’m trying to recall the other ones... I recently called about the VA compensation application and they had a whole list of places that could help for free.
Check with a Veterans Commission Office they should be able to help you. And their service is at no cost to you. You could check with a local Senior Center and see if they have someone that comes in to talk about the process and if so sit in on a presentation. Some Assisted Living facilities also have presentations like this. This will give you a good idea of the group/company/person that is providing the "service" In many cases you will pay for that service. A lawyer can also do this for you and if you are using one it might be a good idea to use them for this process as well. Either way it will cost you. As long as you are willing to pay for the service ask what % of the applications they submit are processed quickly and accepted.
