I think that so many of us feel this way. Whether you had the worst parent or the best or somewhere in-between, we all think that if we do one more thing or try just a little harder things will change. They won't.


"You always think that a bolt of lightning is going to strike and your parents will magically change into the people you wish they were or back into the people they used to be. But they’re never going to. And even though you know they’re never going to, you still hope they will."

Yes, this can be true. Sometimes this feeling last a lifetime, other people settle things in their heads and hearts and are able to put the past behind them.

For others emotions hit hard during certain times of the year, holidays, birthdays or anniversaries.

It’s definitely an individual thing. Not a ‘one size fits all’ thing.
