First, if you don't already have Hospice involved, do so now. They can be a great help and answer any questions you might have.

Losing interest in eating can be a sign that your dad's body is preparing to shut down, as part of the dying process. Our digestive system is one of the first systems to shut down during the dying process, and forcing someone to eat during that time can be very painful and dangerous for them. While it is hard to watch our LO not eat and eventually not drink, we need to let them guide us as to what they need or don't need.

That's why getting hospice involved now if you don't already, can be very helpful in understanding the process. Best wishes and God bless.

I am so sorry. I second what grandma has said. Wise words.

It’s very emotional watching family members decline. I wish you peace during this difficult time in your life.

I sincerely hope that your father’s transition will be peaceful. Hospice can help. Please consider contacting them.

NicoleB, as we age we will start to lose our taste for food, except for sugary items. I noticed that whenever my Mom [97] would give me her grocery list, good grief, pie, chocolate chip muffins, Little Debbie or Hostess cupcakes, and do not forget ice cream. Dad was happy.

If your Dad can eat surgery items, see if he shows any interest in pie or a chocolate creme filled cupcake. If Dad wants ice cream for breakfast, ask him "one scoop or two". I believe when we all reach our golden years old, let us have fun foods :)
