My father-in-law continually asks the same questions regarding investments, etc. He is well taken care of and all his finances are in order. Would it be helpful to print out a note so every time he starts down that train of thought he is reminded that there is nothing for him to do, and all his financial concerns are in very good order? Which he facilitated years prior to his dementia.

My mother used to do that. I always told her the same thing: "Mom, you have plenty of money to last you if you stay at home. If you have to go to a nursing home, then you'll run out of money." She found that calming and it was the truth. I didn't try to go through numbers with her, because she wouldn't have grasped them for long.

Thanks for your input, my FIL is obsessed with wanting to check account balances, buy bonds, stay ahead of paying to much to 'Uncle Sam'. He has done everything to secure his financial well being, we continually assure him that he is well advised. He insists he has been speaking with '?' (fabricated persons) that have alternate suggestions as to what can be done. This goes on daily, repeatedly and relentlessly. He seems to 'enjoy' stressing?! His stressing is wearing me out, that's why I thought if I print out a sheet, and leave it near his little stockpile of financial papers it would be a gentle reminder that we have discussed this issue to 'ad nauseam'.

This must be an old age "thing". Maybe because they lived through the Great Depression?

MY Mom is constantly worried about finances. I get the monthly statement from the brokerage accounts mailed....used to be online only. So..as soon as it arrives I give it to Mom. The broker was nice enough to do a monthly "financial" status report too.

So Mom can see for herself what is happening. I am not so sure she actually understands it. But, it makes her feel better to hold it in her hand and see it...I guess.
