My 81 year old mother keeps trying to leave and is very abusive. I can't take this anymore. Is there help out there for her and me?

She needs to be somewhere safe and with medical professionals. I have been caring for her for 6 years and I'm not medically trained. We don't have the money for nursing home and Medicaid app takes time. I'm not sure either of us have that long. My health is failing and I have severe burnout I'm afraid and depression. I just don't know what to do anymore.

Does she have any assets? Remembering that 50% of them he may be entitled to.

If she has one month, 2 or 3 months of private pay, its the easiest way to get them placed. Here's what I did. Mom had 20k.

April, started the Medicaid application.
May 1st, Mom was placed in a NH
May and June were private pay, this spent her down.
June I confirmed that the caseworker had everything he needed
July 1st Medicaid started.

My State allows 90days to spend down assets, get all info needed and place the applicant.

If she has no assets then talk to a NH near you and ask if its possible to have her placed with Medicaid pending. They can help you get the application started but don't rely on them fully. Be on top of things. Know who the caseworker is. Make sure he/she has everything needed. The NH was a big help but I did the application, with the help of a caseworker at Medicaid, from beginning to end.

Be aware that her SS and any pension will go to her care. Is there still a husband? If so, he will become the Community spouse being able to stay in the home and have a car. Their assets will need to be split. Her half being spent down then Medicaid being applied for. He will get enough of the monthly income to live on.
