My 99 yr old mother has been in an adult foster care home for 3 years. She will be going to a nursing home on Monday. When should I tell her?

The care home is a 6 bedroom home with 6 clients and one staff member. Since she now needs a higher level of care because of her physical limitations, she will be going to a Nursing Home on Monday. She has moderate dementia. When is the best time to tell her? My 2 sisters will be at the AFH with her for Easter Dinner.

Tell her on Monday. Don't add to her anxiety because there is nothing that she can do about it. If she has dementia, be ready with some therapeutic fibbing. Something like, 'The Foster home was shut down because they have mold.' Or they have to put in new windows, or a new roof, etc.

charleneb32, I am moving your post back toward the first page. Hopefully a caregiver who has gone through this can give you some suggestions.
