Why does my mother moan and cry a lot?

This will go on almost all day, and she is well taken care of. She had a stroke a year and a half ago and this started about two months ago. She is in hospice care at home and is immobile, and can not speak , just whines and cries. She is taken care of 24 hours a day by family.
