A job loss and rent increase made rent unpayable. I just received an eviction notice. What can I do?

60-year-old disabled vet and 71-year-old....thanks

Apply for a voucher from the Department of Health and Human Services for senior/disabled subsidized housing. You will have to prove your need by providing copies of your income taxes, savings, annuities, bonds, pensions. It may take a few weeks if not months to be approved but in the interim call your county department of aging to get info on where to begin the application process. Senior housing have waiting lists as well, depending on how many units are subsidized in your area.
I hope you don't get evicted. If worse comes to worse and you have no friends or family to call on, you can go to a homeless shelter in your county.

Call your local Agency on Aging and see if they have a list of senior apartments... these apartment rents are based on your income. Also check with your Veterans Administration to see if they have any programs to help pay for rent.
