My mother is 95, and her dementia is getting worse.

Her hillusinations are getting worse every day, and for some reason she is up most of the night. My brother lives with her and is very tired staying up with her most of the night, and he still works, which seems to be suffering....can we put her in a facility for a week so we can rest???

What information? :( I wish I'd had any to offer!

There has got to be a market for respite hotels. The major technical hitch I can see for the business plan would be: what if less kindly families - not yours of course - brought their loved ones for a week but never came back to get them?

I suppose you'd have to insure for that possibility and the cost of placing them... This could all get very expensive indeed...

Call a nursing home and ask your question. If they don't offer respite care, then perhaps they can refer you to who does. Also have her checked for a UTI. That's always a necessary step. Don't stop looking for respite care until you find it. Could you give brother a night to rest while you are looking?

If you can find a facility that offers respite care, it would be a very good idea for her to go there for a week, yes.

And while she's there, you and your brother can discuss her worsening symptoms with her doctor and come up with a care plan. It just isn't feasible for someone with a full time job also to cope with being the full time caregiver for a 95 year old with worsening dementia.
