What are some fun and stimulating activities for nursing home patients?

My mom is in a nice nursing home but I think there could be more activities offered. I want speak to the activities director, but instead of complaining, I'd like to offer suggestions. How can I help the activity director? How can others help? There are a few others who visit they're loved one daily as I do.
