Theowoman Asked April 2013

Is there a support group that physically meets in Austin, TX? Virtual is great, but I am looking for more actual dialogue.

Thank you for your help. I am looking for something already in place. I am a graduate student caring for my 91 year old Mother. I have the best circumstance as my husband is a huge help and my siblings visit often. I also have a 20 year old son living at home, he helps as well. I was looking for conversation about what happens as she deteriorates. My Mother was a very accomplished women and I struggle with who she is today and who she was yesterday. I am sure that I will eventually find what I need. Until then - thank you for the suggestions, you are very kind.

Oh, poo. Can you start one? Seriously. Put up a flyer on your church or on a community bulletin board and see if you can get like minded people interested in meeting at a coffee shop ( I would meet somewhere public-I have a suspicious mind and worry about meeting strangers in a non public place).
Also you could check out some therapists in your area. Many of them have support groups as well as one on one therapy. Maybe look in the phone book ( virtual one) and make a few calls. It may cost to join however.

Good luck!

I have done both with no success.

Google it. Or check your newspaper. I often see support group notices in the newspaper for different things. I am not sure which section. But pick up a Friday edition and a Sunday edition. I think those are your best bets for finding info about groups in them. Good luck!
