What happens if both my husband and I die while we are the DPOA for mother with dementia?

We understand that POA's cannot transfer without her signature but she was diagnosed with dementia 1.5 years ago and would not be able to sign a new one. We live in Louisiana.

First, the likely hood of that happening is low. Second, she would become a ward of the state.
