Find Care & Housing
I used to say that my mum would be able to go home soon once the doctor said she was able. Then I would say, “Now, would you like a cup of tea?” or I would put on some of her favourite music and ask if she wanted to dance. Another thing I used to do was to ask for her help to do something such as tidy her wardrobe or room or make her bed, or ask her to come a walk round the nursing home or into the garden to look at the flowers. Invariably, she would forget about wanting to go home, but when she mentioned it again I would just pleasantly repeat that the doctor would let us know when it was suitable for her to return home. I never ever said that the nursing home was now her home or that she was home and I never said that going home was not an option and she accepted my replies. Hope that helps. Eventually, she stopped asking.
