My father has been at this AL MC for the past 1y 10m he is finally adjusting and actually attending activities. The place as good, in a good neighborhood, good food and most of the staff is attentive. The issue I have is that the DOM lies about everything. I have caught her in multiple lies and cause a conflict with my dad with one of her lies. My father has been going to the same doctors and I have delivered the discharge papers to the AL, it is EPIC system so the form is pretty standard.
I dropped my father back at the AL after a neurologist visit and 2 days later pharmacy called me stating that insurance would not cover one of the medications. I asked for the name of the medication which they gave me. I googled the medication and it was a medication NOT ordered by his Dr. and a medication was prescribed by a different Dr. (GP). I called the AL spoke with nurse who cannot speak very good English and asked why they ordered the medication. She ordered 2 different medication which are for C-DIF and he has been out of it for over 8 months. I called the pharmacy and asked them to cancel it. They could not as the AL ordered. I called his GP and asked if he ordered he said no; I asked him to cancel the order as I could not. He contacted the AL and ordered discontinue.
Called the AL and asked to speak with the DOM (Director of nursing) URGENT. She never called me back. Called the Executive Director and asked him to called me urgently, (Never called me back)
I mentioned to my father’s physical therapist what had happened. She ran into the nurse and found out that they had given him one of the medications already (insurance covered 1 of the meds). The DOM saw the physical therapist speaking with the nurse and cut the conversation stating that she had already spoke to me and explained what had happened. (Lie, she never did call me).
I do not want to move my father and I do believe the DOM is incompetent at her job.
What should I do? Who should I contact?
Any assistance would be extremely helpful.

I agree. Ordering Medications is a big thing. When my daughter worked in NHs a pharmacy could be fired for sending the wrong meds or the wrong dosage.

Most Dr offices now have everything typed out so no mistakes are made. In the DONs defense, is she also told when the doctor is canceling a med when prescribing a new one. You may know it because your with Dad but the doctor should have it in writing, since a 3rd party is involved with ordering Dads prescriptions, that he is canceling an ongoing one.

And the Therapist talking to the Nurse and discussing Dads medications, is a HIPPA violation unless Dad has given permission to the therapist and Nurse to discuss his medical condition. So, the DON was correct in stopping that conversation. Actually, the therapist should have spoken to the DON about her concerns but that is where the conversation should stop.

Contact the Ombudsman first thing tomorrow.

There should be a notice in the lobby stating how to contact the Ombudsman for the facility.

Thank you. I did contact the ombudsman and things have improved a bit after the meeting with the ED, ombudsman, the PT an me, the DON was conveniently ill that day.
At least now they have a course of corrective action and the ombudsman is following up on them.

thank you again Barb
