An expert (legal) answered on another post about POA. I will go looking for it, and get back to you. Meantime, check the articles/blogs in the blue bar at the top of your page, click on MONEY & LEGAL.

Then, contact the big three credit reporting agencies to find out what else your POA has done behind your back. Such as open credit card accounts in your name, unbeknownst to you.

If there is evidence of forgery, take the documentation and also go to the local police station. Advise the Secretary of State or motor vehicle division of Kentucky, go to your bank and change your account number.

And revoke your POA, send notice immediately to the person involved in the forgeries that he/she has been terminated as attorney-in-fact and has no further authority for your affairs.

How did this happen and how long has it been going on?

Absolutely not. A financial Power of Attorney can only be used once you are unable to do things yourself, like pay bills.

If you are finding that your POA is doing this, head to your nearest Elder Law attorney and ask for them to help you correct the situations. If you cannot afford an attorney, go to your nearest Legal Aid center.
