I've met several seniors that have these chairs, not on dialysis. How can this be paid for by Medicare?

The state has nothing to do with Medicare. Its a federal program.

There is Medicare with the person buying a suppliment and then there are Medicare advantages. You need to find out which the person has. Most health insurance policies pay for certain durable equipment. Check out the supplimental.

I did research this on the internet and it is a little confusing. Your best bet is to go to a store that carrys the chairs. Ask how Medicare is billed. Take insurance info with you. This article described things a little better.

I looked into this last year for my mom. She has Anthem BCBS Medicare, and her PCP wrote a perscription for a lift chair. Her Medicare would pay a portion of it - the actual mechanism part. But they would not pay for the actual chair part - which averages $700. I think it depends on which Medicare plan you have and what state you're in (I'm in Wisconsin).
