I am trying to donate most of my brother’s furniture, brand new books on every topic from Biology to Learning how to Speak Japanese, fairly new clothes (he was addicted to Kohl’s cash, apparently), microwave, etc.

I called Goodwill, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Purple Heart organizations who could not pick up this weekend on such short notice.

Like most of us having to clean out boxes of stuff from 1950 on, I need to comb through the 100 bankers boxes to make sure I am not missing anything valuable. I have already found an old Penny collection. We (hubby & I) were up there an entire week going through his stuff. I am 61, my hubby 66, & both of us are still recuperating physically & mentally from that trip.

My other option is to forfeit his security deposit & have management dump it all. This I don’t really mind, but my brother very recently bought a new Frigidaire air conditioning unit and I need to remind the apartment mgmt the AC is my brother’s. It just irks me that so many people can utilize brother’s items & would enjoy them.

Anyway, any ideas in Ocean or Monmouth counties in NJ? I hate to throw away good stuff. I can’t fit anything else in my house.

Thanks in advance.

I know, schools are closed, but the offices are not. See if they take donations for the music department. NJ has cut back on giving schools money for this kind of thing.

I had a friend who had a free yardsale. She advertised to come and take what u want.

Hi all, I have called the big 3 (see my post to JoAnn below). He even has a electric keyboard, guitar and an amp.

Some teen may be really into guitar or keyboard and their parents can’t afford to buy one for them. It breaks my heart to have those items thrown away.

I will pursue the link, Barb, thank you.

I’ve already taken what I would like and can’t fit anymore in our house. Before this my goal was to downsize my own stuff!

I guess it’s my depression era mother’s spirit in me, but there are plenty of poor Americans that could really benefit from those items.

Thank you all for the resources.

Got a medical school anywhere in the area? Those books are expensive! There may be a postgraduate library attached to it, and students who'll come and pick the books up.

I know Atlantic County has a womens shelter. Some kids are pretty big. Some Churches have clothing closets or just put in those bins. Habitat for humanity took my Moms stuff.

If you are on Facebook there are on line yardsales under "Groups". Put up an ad Free and pictures of what ur trying to get rid of.

Feel for you. Such a big job and not a lot of time.

I have called Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, Goodwill & a Goodwill store. All cannot pick up anything on short notice.

There are really no valuables for an estate sale. My brother, however, was an avid reader and there are nice new books on everything from Anatomy & Physiology to Voltaire.

I hate to see those books dumped. Not even any of the Ocean Cty Libraries need them staying donations are closed.

Sorry, who have you already tried? I'll happily go digging but I don't want to suggest non-starters.
