All of a sudden I’m the one needing help, not the caregiver. How do I do this part?

What made me pay attention to the fact that this is real is that I got referred to meals on wheels. Yikes! I guess having problems with my walker wheels getting stuck in the gravel around the grocery store after walking there means I’m technically home bound? Yeah, true I’m having balance problems and don’t want to add broken bones to the situation and ,true, I don’t dare drive when I can’t see straight but me? Need help? I guess so. I want to be a good “client “ or whatever you call it and not be a pill about this. Do you have any advice?

Call your County Office of Aging and see what resourses they have. Most have a bus to take seniors shopping and appts. Ours has outtings too.

Walking with a walker won't help much on the bus and schlepping around a grocery store, plus getting the groceries inside.

You do your part by accepting the fact that you are no longer the spring chicken you used to be and that despite the fact that you've tried hard to be independent that you must now accept the fact that you're not as independent as you once were.
So be open to these new changes with patience and grace, and allow yourself time to adjust to your "new normal."
And be open to now asking for help when needed as well, as you don't want to continue to live in denial about your limitations.
You'll be alright, as attitude is half the battle and the fact that you're asking this question tells me that you have a good attitude.
God bless you.

Order groceries online, it's much easier than trying to walk to the store with mobility challenges. I use Walmart.com for $99 a year and that includes free delivery of orders $35 or more, and free shipping on everything from their store, free Peacock tv and other perks too. Local stores also deliver, so Look into what their terms are. Safeway will give me $30 off of my first delivery order.

Good luck to you.

Certainly not enough advise to advise.
What do they tell you about the balance changes? Causes of them?
I find that at 82 I benefit GREATLY with balance exercises WHEN I DO THEM.
You are using that walker for SOME reason: what does the Doc say is going on?

Meanwhile, from what little we know, yes, accept that extra help. I know, it's shocking. But all of aging is, when inside we feel--you know--NORMAL. It's like "Who is that stranger in my mirror-glass".
