How do guardians living in another state give money to parent after opening a guardianship bank account? My mom gets scammed often.

Mother has early dementia and mental health issues. My brother and I were recently granted guardianship. She has given thousands of dollars to romance scammers she meets on social media and been kicked out of banks as a risk. We are opening the guardianship account this weekend, but need to be able to give her funds but live in another state. How do others in similar situations handle this?

All bills are sent to the guardian and the guardian has control over the bank account. If your brother and you are appointed by the court, you will have annual state forms to fill. You can also spend down money for professional services. Why are you not informed? I was guardian for my mom and transfered it when we moved to another state. Even the judge reminded me and gave me copies of the probate forms. My lawyer showed me how to fill out the first one.
If her bank is refusing to work with you for her to have a little bit to spend, then you have authority to switch banks

I got my mom a true link card which I manage. You set the controls so it can only be used in certain categories or even at certain businesses if you choose.

This is what I expected, however the bank is telling me she is not allowed to have a spending account at all and we have to give her cash only?

You are guardian. You are there to prevent this.
You need now to handle ALL payments, all BILLS, EVERYTHING.
It's hard work to keep records on all of it and get your folders set up and visit with each entity getting registered, or do it by phone and mail, but after one year it will be running smoothly.
As to her own spending account, she gets an account you monitor which is for spending money, and when she cannot stay away from scams then that is gone as well. My brother only GREW his 2,000 account.

See an Attorney. This is of course paid for. If you are asking these questions you definitely need to learn these things first hand and how to do them. You should do this in her state as those are the laws pertaining. Things are not longer in her control. That is why a guardian was assigned. Your bank will help you set this up. Be certain it is a bank with branch managers in both areas. YOU will be signee for all big accounts. She will not. She can be signee only on her small account which you monitor.

As I said, this will take time and visits. Guardianship is a VERY TOUGH Fiduciary task.
