What happens to the spouse support check when the person goes to a long term nursing home?

Are you talking about alimony payments. Lets say the a male is paying an ex alimony and that male need a NH. I think he is still responsible to pay the alimony so it will be deducted from his SS and the balance going to the NH. Now if the person is an ex receiving alimony thats part of their income and needs to be paid to the NH for their care if on Medicaid.

There are all kinds of scenarios. Meaning if there is a spouse or dependant children, then adjustments would need to be made if they rely on the monthly income brought in. We are lay people who care for LOs. We do not know all the in and outs of Medicaid. You need to talk to an Elder Lawyer well versed in Medicaid to answer a question like this. Its not cut and dried.

It is an asset. It goes to pay for care, just as any other asset like SS.

Just occurred to me you may mean that the person writing the support check has gone to nursing home? If this is the case I don't know the answer. I think it would be up to his or her POA to have the spousal check listed as a monthly expense of his? Good question for an attorney in this case.
