How come all the questions about staffing levels are closed for comments?

Yes, WA state doesn't have any laws about care giver to resident ratio as long as the job is done but we all know for-profits are cutting every corner they can, erasing grace from the residents' lives! I guess I'm just feeling like a deer in headlights, can't believe there isn't more regulation and that people are allowing this.

As others have said, postings run their course and close. It doesn’t necessarily make those posts unimportant. You can still read the comments and gain insight if you wish. The other choice is to start a new thread like you have.

I doubt if anyone would deny neglect in a situation where understaffing is an issue.

So, what is the alternative? In a home care setting, there may be understaffing too. One person at home cannot adequately do the job of three shifts without becoming exhausted.

While an old post may be closed to new comments, it's never closed for reading old comments. Did you look at the dates on those closed posts?

I live in an HOA board run community and 'understaffing' is the current excuse for why one FOOT of snow STILL hasn't been removed from our streets 2 days after it fell. We pay $265 a month in dues precisely FOR snow removal to be done in a timely manner, too. Short staffing levels are a very real issue in our new post-Covid world now, not just in the elder care field. Folks are being neglected left and right b/c nobody wants to work anymore, period.

You can always post a new question, as you have here, and get lots of comments until the post gets old itself and closed down to further comments.

Just feel free to open a new thread, Mary. I am unaware of the one you speak of. Sometimes threads go into personal bickers between people; when this happens the admins often close the thread to further comment. I don't really know other reasons your thread may have been closed, but if you wish to discuss staffing levels ongoing the Discussions threads below the questions thread may give your thread a lot more action and time visible. Your questions seems not at all controversial, so I cannot conceive of why it may have been closed to comment, but please do feel free to post again, and best of a good new year coming to you.

Mary, unlike some other forums, AgingCare generally closes a thread once the original issue has reached a resolution or run its course.

Starting new threads is very common here.
