My husband doesn't move, his hygiene is bad, and I need help with him. Any advice?

I am soon going on 85 years. My husband is 82.

Have you used Visiting Angels? I hired to assist my aunt with dressing, personal hygiene. The first worker said her job was to visit with my aunt. Called them they said it was a misunderstanding. Second worker came and said much the same thing. I ended up paying close to $300.00 and got little to nothing. I would not use them again.

I am 80 and my partner 82. While we recognize that at some point, who knows when or how, one of us is going to become a burden on the other, we also have talked and understand that the one who remains the more hale and hearty is STILL of an age. Decisions will have to be made. We have done our POA documents with selves to make decisions, arranged finances so we can function one for the other, and put children on as seconds to serve if we both decide to crump at once.
Mary, can you tell us a bit more?
Do you have support of family or friends? Do you have POA documents done and Advance Directives you might need for health care? Is your husband suffering from dementia of any kind?
When you mention hygiene issues what specifically are you speaking of.
Are you able to handle the home and chores on your own? Would sound like a lot? Do you have the ability to hire some care? Have you seen your husband's doctor about changes you are noticing or ARE THEY CHANGES (by that I mean have these problems always been there to some degree?)
More information will help us answer you.

I can see why you'd need help! Why doesn't he move? Is he in pain? Does he have dementia?

Follow the advice above on from lea on finding help ASAP.

Good luck.

Call a caregiving agency in your area & hire an aide to come into your home for a few days a week to start, to give you a break and to help you with your husband. Or go to Care.com and choose a caregiver yourself. Or go to the right side of your screen where it says Find Care & Housing, click on Home Care, punch in your zip code or city, and then See My Results.

Good luck!
