How do I go about getting hospice care?

As everyone has said, Hospice in the home is not 24/7. Someone has to be there most of the 24 hrs. An aide will be available for bathing and you can ask for more time to run errands but ... the family still does most of the care. As suggested, it maybe time to place her.

You would be better to check into a facility. You need for her to have 24/7 care and hospice is not that, unless she is near enough to passing she can't just stay in the hospice facility. It is a daily charge after a set number of days.

You can call the local hospice providers and they will be happy to help you understand what they offer and how to get it. Just realize that you will still be the hands on caregiver.

A doctor will order it for you. Is this for you or for a loved one? Are you POA if a loved one so you can speak with the Doc. The Doctor may have a list of Hospices for you to interview, or they will be listed in your area. The hospice will come to interview for eligibility. It is covered in almost all instances by Medicare. I am assuming you know what hospice is, their mission, the care rendered and etc. If not they will inform you. Feel free to contact by phone Hospice listed in your area. Any search engine, google or others, will guide you.

Hospice care in Texas is not 24/7 care. Family and friends still provide majority of care especially overnight.

Call the doc to request an evaluation. Or you can call hospice organizations directly to ask for an assessment. Look for a nonprofit.
