My dad is 81, owns his own home. My brother, his wife and their grandson live there. How should they pay themselves for taking care of him?

His social security check pays for mortgage, electric, gas, cable and internet, all his medicines, food. My brother and his wife and their grandson live in the home to take care of him and all 3 work another job. How should they pay themselves for taking care of him? Keeping in mind they make him take care of himself, he eats microwaved food that he fixes himself or pizza that he pays for that they order for everyone. He needs special care.

They are already living rent free on your fathers dime...that should be enough.

I am assuming that they are living there rent free? And that he wishes them to live there and that it is all working very well for all involved. Seems like a fair exchange right there. I feel they should buy their own food, allow him to eat with them if he likes. Seems then a fair exchange to me. If he pays for all his own care and the mortgage I would guess there isn't a whole lot leftover?

How do you think he is going to pay them if his SS already pays for everything.

Does your brother pay anything towards the bills and Mortgage? If not, they are living free of charge. And they all work and they really have no expenses. Dad can't be too bad if they r out of the house over 8 hrs a day. So no , don't think they need to get paid for the few things they need to do for him.
