I live in Missouri. I had lived and been a caregiver for my mom in her home for 11 years. If she goes into a nursing home, will they be able to take the house she's living in?
When my Mom went on Medicaid I was told that my disabled nephew, who had lived with her for 9 yrs, may have to pay rent. The caseworker we got didn't worry about that because it was up for sale. When I got the recovery paperwork it said that if there was a family member living there and the house had been my Moms main residence and theirs too, they would be allowed to stay. A lean would still be put on the house and satisfied if the house was sold or after their death.
You may need to show you can afford to pay bills and keep it up.
By the way, Medicaid does not "take" the house. They just don't allow the recipient to use their income to upkeep it. So, either family pays the bills or it sits allowing taxes to mount up and the water bill. Utilities can be shut off. The Township is more likely to take the house for back taxes.
Do you mean if your Mom goes on Medicaid? If so, from my understanding, they won’t evict you from her house and leave you homeless. They will put a lien on the home and when it is sold, all the proceeds from the sale of the home will go to Medicaid.
