They want to put my wife in a home and I'm against this, what can I do?

They want to put my wife in a home and I'm against this what can I do? They have stopped me seeing her in hospital, so I'm being kept in the dark what's going on.

How long have you been married, Alan?

When was she admitted to the psychiatric hospital?

When were you told that you would not be allowed to see her?

There's no way they can keep you from seeing your wife in the hospital. There's must be something else to this story.

Your wife is 68 years old, living at home with age-related decline, anxiety, arthritis, depression, diabetes, hearing loss, mobility problems, and vision problems.

And she is currently in hospital.

Who is the "they" in "they have stopped me seeing her"?
What reason has been given?

The thing is. "They" could be afraid that caring for your wife at home will kill you. Equally, they could suspect that it is your inability to care for her that has landed her in hospital and that it is not safe to return her to your care. No matter how caring and willing you are, it doesn't necessarily make you able to do the job.

Or, of course, it could be a bit of both.

What you are entitled to is explanations of any restraining orders or other kinds of legal protection; and if your wife is made the subject of an emergency guardianship application or anything like that you must be told about it.

As your wife is in hospital at the moment, speak to the social workers there and ask them for advice on your own account. You matter too.

How long has your wife needed this level of care?

Alan, I see from your profile that your wife is in the hospital, and the hospital wants to put her into a home. Does the hospital Case Worker want to put your wife in a nursing home, or a rehab facility where your wife would stay for a couple of weeks until she gets stronger?

Do you have Power of Attorney for your wife, thus you can legally make decisions for her when she isn't able?

It could be the hospital has found that after your visit your wife, she becomes upset because she wants to go with you. That is usually the case. You need to ask them point blank what is their reason. And accept their reason as this isn't their first rodeo.

I hope everything works out for you and your wife. Keep us informed.
