My husband had a stroke in 2003. Immediately after, he also would talk nonstop. He had aphasia and we couldn’t understand much of what he said. I still tease him (affectionately) about the time he told me and everyone else in the room that I wash dishes in the toilet.
Depending on the severity of his stroke and whether it has kicked in dementia, it could be affecting his inhibitions. My husband constantly interrupts as well and I recently told him if he doesn’t stop I’m going to develop a stuttering issue. I lose my train of thought and can’t make my point. Yes, I’ve yelled at him not to interrupt. But, he still does it and I wind up feeling like a heel.
Does your husband go for therapy? Even if he’s finished his course of speech therapy, you can still call and speak with them. I just talked to my husband’s OT a month ago and he hadn’t seen him for a year. They don’t forget their patients. And, if hubby seems anxious, ask his neurologist about a small dose of anti-anxiety meds.
Its s long road. We’ve been on it for 15 years. Allowances have to be made. It’s tough. It’s a new and different way of living, but you assimilate the changes and roll with them.
