How many are planning on Medicaid to pay for any nursing home care they might need?

FF, My parents were the same way. Save, save, save. Buy used cars and hold onto them. I just got rid of my old Chev Equinox 13 yrs old and dying. Bought a 2015 Ford Escape. PJ’s Suburban is 14yrs old.

I read a survey done in Maine. 80% of respondents said they would depend on Medicaid for nursing home care. No one knows what will happen, but I think there are some people who haven’t planned. I’m not sure if Medicaid will be there in the future.

Becky, it is so hard to plan what might happen tomorrow or years down the road.

Growing old in American is extremely expensive. I have no children, no siblings thus no nieces or nephews. My cousins are my age and they have their own age relate decline. I just realized today that one of my cousins is now 80 years old. Good grief, when did that happen?

I am just hoping that government doesn't slash Medicaid down the road to help pay for other things they feel are more important. Our current President is going to have to raid some accounts to pay for all of his plans, which doesn't include more care for the elderly or more scientific research to help cure or limit diseases that affect us as we age :((

Thankfully my parents taught me to scrimp, save, and cut coupons. Not to buy anything new until the product I already have has totally broken down. By saving, it will give me choices as I age, up to a point.

There may not be Medicaid when I need it or the criteria will be lots stricter so fewer people need it.

I dont have any other options other than medicaid, mom does not have any income, was living with me for 15 years, now in such situation that require 24/7, fortunately she has MLTSS program, connected with medicaid, that should paid for full for NH. Still hard decision. but no other choice.
