Mom won't do day programs. I can't even get her to the Dr. to be evaluated. She has dementia and fights me on everything, what can I do?

Anyone know of good nursing homes in or around Worc. area?

Do you and your mom live together? Her place or yours?

Gypsy, forget the day programs if your Mom has no interest in participating. Plus please remember your Mom's brain is broken thus she is unable to reason out things, thus she will fight you on everything.

As for doctor appointments, you could try saying to your Mom that she would lose her health insurance if she doesn't go at least once a year..... we call that a "theraputic fib" in order to make a person do what we would like them to do. It may or may not work.

Since your Mom fights you on everything, sounds like maybe she could have an Urinary Tract Infection, which can make an older person uncooperative. It is best to be tested at a doctor's office or urgent care, but you can also buy a testing kit at a drug store.

As for a good nursing home in your area, it would be best for you to tour the facilities in your area because this website is worldwide, it would be hard for any of us to recommend a place since I can't remember anyone on the forum at the moment who is from Worcester, Massachusetts.. I assume that is the city you meant. You can also get a list by going to the blue box on the right of this page "Find Care and Housing".
