One way to get paid, as cmagnum had mentioned above, is for your Mom to pay you a salary. You would need to file payroll taxes so you can build up your Social Security and Medicare accounts.

Another option is to contact Medicaid [which is different from Medicare] to see if your Mom could qualify. Not every State offers a salary to a person who is caring for a love one, and if they do, the pay would be very minimal.

I hope you have medical insurance for yourself.

Does she have the money to pay you? Is she competent to sign a business contract between the two of you? Who else is available to take care of her? What are her care needs beyond mobility?
