I have had enough. What can I do?

My Mom called at 10pm last night to complain that her 24 hr a day caregiver came back hungover after having 3 days off( The only time off she has had in 1 1/2 months since she started. ) My Mom was threatening to call 911. I told her to go ahead and enjoy her new nursing home that they will take her to. I am at my wits end with this awful woman.

She didn't need help she does this drama for attention. The Helper was fine. She did call 911 and when they came out they saw she was nuts. I have a FOI file with the police to get the report. The caregiver is wonderful and she has been going thru them like water.

Does your phone have a Do not disturb button on it...so you can set it when you go to bed? Set some boundaries with your mother...this may eliminate the phone calls late at night..I can understand the concern of her not getting in touch with you after a certain time....if she needs to call 911 for a real emergency she can do that.

If she calls 911...they may contact the appropriate agency to have her placed in a facility..so maybe her threatening to call 911..might be the answer you are seeking.  Why did she want to call 911...for an emergency or for sympathy?

If she is so unhappy with the caregiver...call the agency and ask for a replacement....I am sure they could assist if the caretaker is not doing their job.

Good luck.

If you think that she needs additional care, why did you say something likely to cause her to refrain from calling 911? If she were to call and they responded, then wouldn't they follow up with trying to get her more care? Maybe, I don't understand why her calling 911 would be a negative thing, if she needs the help.
