Tips on sleeping with rib fracture?

I am a 70 year old male & after falling I fractured a rib. Am taking Oxycodone/Acetaminophen & Ibuprofen. These help the pain somewhat during the day. My big problem is sleeping or lying in bed. Once in bed for 1 hour or more, the pain is overwhelming & need help to get up. Anything I can do to make this better. Like best positions when lying down.

Tacy, thanks for the information on pillows and modalities. I was thinking of what helped when I had various orthopedic injuries, but apparently their helpfulness doesn't extend to broken ribs. I appreciate your corrections so that AmFarr doesn't try anything that might complicate his pain.

Tacy, good suggestion for a heating pad. Amfarr, are there any therapists involved? Tacy's suggestion brought to mind the question of whether or not something like ultrasound or TENS might help.

Do you have a recliner chair that you could sleep in, sitting up, even though you would prefer to lie down? Could you take the Oxy just before you go to bed, and/or switch the timing of the meds so that you might even take one if you wake up in the middle of the night. Could you sleep on your stomach with a pillow underneath your chest?

I haven't fractured a rib so I don't have any personal experience in this, but I know that pain at night can severely interfere with getting a good night's sleep which is necessary for healing.
