Mom (91) is of sound mind, but cannot hear or see well. What's going on?

Lately she's been "seeing" flowers on the walls, patterns all around her. She also can't get a favorite song out of her head. She is not sleeping well due to pain in her shoulders and refuses to take meds for pain and/or to sleep.

Thank you.....all tips extremely helpful.

Dee, my Mom ran into that problem with her macular degeneration that she had in both of her eyes. Don't know if that is a common issue or a rare issue seeing flowers/patterns.

Dee, she's probably beyond the point where she can be in charge of her medication decisions. If you need to do some therapeutic fibbing ( this is for your nerves, this is to keep your brain strong), so be it. Someone else other than her needs to be in charge.

deetra, if they want to admit her to get the medications right, let them. Make sure they have a correct current med list. You did the right thing, good for you.

She is at the E.R. right now for tests and it might be related to a panic attack, but she won't increase her meds.

She is not of sound mind if she is experiencing hallucinations. Call the MD and report the new symptom.
