What can be done when a son is left POA, and is under medical prescriptions for mental illness?

Marski, what can be done is also a function of whatever "her" status is, whether or not she's able to recognize the son's limitation, such as it may be, and whether or not she's able to make changes to the POA designation. Obviously it also depends on how much decision making is required.

I think as Jessie suggests that more detail is needed, including how you feel the son's illness might negatively affect his mother (?). I'm also wondering how much you know about the illness of the daughter. Two adult siblings with mental illness makes me wonder if the mother (assuming that's who it is) is also affected.

Is this in your family? What's your role in this situation? If it's not your family and you're a bystander or interested party, your role would really be limited to (a) attempted intervention with another family member or the woman herself, (b) offering assistance periodically with other aspects of care so that you can continue to be aware of what takes place, and/or (c) contacting a governmental unit to intervene if necessary.

It really depends on what type of mental illness it is and if the illness is active. Could you tell us a bit more? I ask because a person with something like an anxiety or bipolar disorder who is taking medication can be as capable as anyone else. However, a person with active symptoms of schizophrenia would be a different story.
