Can you turn down meals as a POA?

My 92-year-old father-in-law has been in the nursing home since Sept. 2. He has lost weight, sleeps the whole day and night, can't talk, isn't responsive, has a catheter. He's had three UTI's since he's been in the nursing home. He also has prostate cancer. They get him up three times a day and wheel him to the dining area. He is not awake. I tried feeding him some oatmeal this morning. He opened his mouth but I noticed a few minutes later he's not swallowing. My husband has POA. Can we ask that they stop taking him to the dining hall? He's not eating, he's not awake and eating isn't going to make him better.

Thank you for the info. I appreciate it!

The POA should call the MD who can order a Hospice Evaluation. The only time you are going to see food withheld is on a Hospice order.
