How long does the stress last after the sick person dies?

i was living and caring for my aging father for 5 years, He suffered from ALS (mild) and dementia. He died one month ago and I feel exhausted and cant get over the stress caused by all this situation. HOw much time do I expect to get back to normal??

I am thinking that after all this stress that if my 92 yr. old Mom ever does pass that I will be exhausted and just want to sleep for awhile. This happened to someone else I know but he went through caregiving with 2 difficult parents and first his mother died and his father died last month and all he wants to do now is sleep. I compare it to a bug caught in a jar and then after a long time the lid is removed yet the bug stays in the jar cause it doesn't know any different after being trapped so long. It could also be mourning that is tiring you out. Get some rest, take care of your health, and slowly allow yourself to get out and start feeling better. Your strength will return.

i spent 6 yrs living with my mother and only realized the end stage dementia for the last year of her life . if you spend that much time around a skewed thought process its going to take a long time for your brain to calm down .

This isn't just stress from his care. It is also mourning. I'm sure it was a blessing when he finally did pass, but he was your dad. Get out and get some fresh air. Spring is here. Sit in a park and feed the birds. Go window shopping. Take a drive in the country. Get our among people again. If after making an effort, if you are still suffering, please contact your doctor. You may need the benefit of a antidepressant. Take care. You can do this
