My Mom and I have a joint checking account. Can we request that her SS checks be deposited into checking instead of savings?

Moms funds have dwindled and because of this the premier savings account she had was changed to a day to day savings with less benefits. In doing so they also changed the account number and now SS wouldn't direct deposit her checks. What can I to rectify. She is in Florida till middle of Jan and 2 checks will not be deposited. Would like to have them deposited directly to checking, but I don't think I can do anything without her present. Can she call directly from Florida?

Does your mother have an online account? If not, you can set one up for her by going to www.ssa.gov and choosing "Create Account." It will give you the ability to do many things without having to go to the SS office.

II think you can go on line and change the account it goes into. My husband changed his account from one bank to another and all I did was go on line and change the number. Hopes this helps
