Does the Veterans Administration provide any services for WWII veterans who have Alzheimer's disease?
My husband will be 89 late this year. As a couple, we can easily afford to live on our own. BUT if the veteran has to be in separate quarters or if we both were in a care facility (which I do not need), we could simply not afford it.
I wish I knew more about this, but I will tell you what I was told by a Dementia Only Assisted Living facility rep. We were discussing my cousin, who needed placement and the costs was an issue. She asked if she had served even one day in the military. She said that if so, there are services available that make a big difference. I didn't inquire anymore about it, but perhaps a rep from a facility could give you a good contact number and person for your area. Good luck.
VA benefits can be tough to qualify for if you have any money saved and make above bare-bones social security. That said, make an appointment with a country social worker through human services. A good social worker will have information about things you may qualify for, including VA benefits. He/she can look over your information and help you get with what assistance is available for you.
