I don't trust Mom's new personal care worker. Any advice?

Mom is in a Nursing Home and will have a new personal care worker starting on afternoon shift this week. I had a run-in with this person about four years ago when mom first moved into the home. She was showering mom and I was across the hall in her room. I heard mom screaming and then understood from mom's behavior that the worker was being rough with her because she was being uncooperative. I put in a complaint about her, but it never went anywhere. Now she is back to haunt me and I am afraid of mom being manhandled by this women. I also had suspicions that this same women stole mom's watch and ring and two leather handbags. No proof, but I know it was her. What can I do but worry about what hasn't happened yet. Of all the nice people who work there, why did she have to get the job? I have been giving mom a shower once a week so I don't have to worry about that at least.

Please take immediate steps to have this woman reassigned from caring for your mom. Listen to your instincts. Do not have her care for your mom. Talk to the management at the home. You can't keep tabs on your mom 24/7 and you don't need added stress of worrying about this woman and her rough treatment and possible theft history.

Thanks for your comments. I'm not sure what will happen once this women starts work on the unit, but one thing is for sure, I will be watching every move she makes. Just when you think you have come through one problem another rears it's ugly head with this disease. All I want is for mom to be well looked after so I can rest easy at night. Seems like this is too much to ask!

Ask the director or the person in charge to switch your mom to someone else just saying that your mom doesn't get along with her too well.

Is mom still non-compliant? You could have the MD order two aides for the showering. You could have the MD order Ativan one hour before bathing. As far as the theft, NEVER leave valuables unlocked. They can give you a lock box for mom. Suspicions get you nowhere, so forget suspicions.
