How do I receive an income for caring for a family member?

I just saw this on another post.. I guess in MA there is a service called Caregiver Homes, look it up.

Call the Hanover Council of Aging (781) 924-1913, they will let you know what resources are available to your Mom..

I consulted an elder care atty. in MD. I wanted to put aside some money for mom's use when she goes on Medicaid and has needs not covered by Medicaid. I was told that I could pay myself a salary for all of the stuff that I do for my mom ie paying her bills, taking her to doctor appts, shopping for her, consulting with her caregivers, etc. I found out what the average pay was for a "companion" in my area. I document all that I do, the time involved and then multiply the hours times the hourly wage. All of this money goes into a savings acct in my name but it is really for mom's use when she runs out of money and is on Medicaid. I don't know if this helps, but consult an eldercare atty. for legal advice. Good Luck!!

Honestly the only way I know of is through Medicaid/Medi Cal. If your Mom is on Medicaid then I know you can have a form filled out and I do not know how long it takes but I do know you can receive payment for your services.

I cannot do that because my mother is not a Medicaid/Medi/Cal recipient. I do live in California and I wish there was someplace that did provide even a small salary, but I have never heard of any.

My daughter had to quit her job and watch my husband 8 hours a day while I worked fulltime. He had severe congested heart failure, was on dialyses, and when he passed was in the late stages of alzeheimers. We tried for years to see if she could get paid and never could. We tried everything and was told she would have to be hired by a home health company and then get assigned to him. But then she would also be working for them and would have to see any patient that was assigned to her. Its such a difficult situation and the sad thing is you probably will not get paid.

There is a rumor in my area (Chicago, IL) that one can go to the local offices for Elder Care and ask that they evaluate your loved one, and then they can provide some type of documentation for you to receive compensation for caregiving.

I wish I knew more than this. This is clearly a state-level program, and not all states may offer it, and they may have different criteria. Pursue more info through your local Elder Care and Welfare offices. Good luck.

She (my mom) has congestive heart failure, High Potassium, High blood preasure, finds it very hard to walk, or see. She claims to be in pain all the time, she has 8 stints in the upper valves of her heart, but the doctors tell her they can do nothing for the lower valves. I live with her and was told by many that I can get paid for caring for her, how do I go about getting paid?
