I'm legal guardian of my 83 year old Dad. I'd like to understand what the allowable expenses are for the accounting?

I drive my own car to the nursing home where he lives to visit him several times a week.It is a one hour round trip. I submit the gas expense but my car is starting to wear. Can I submit bills for that. I live in NJ.

If you have a tax adviser that prepares your taxes, ask them the question. They know is deductible and what isn't.

You probably "submit" your gas pills to the attorney you went to for the conservatorship, and the attorney prepares accounting and documents to submit to the court as per the court's order, is that correct? In that case, the best person to ask is the attorney.

On the odd chance that you submit bills directly to the court for approval, it's probably a conservatorship for probate court. You can call directly through to the court clerk of the appropriate court, explain to the clerk and ask for guidance.
