Mom 92, had Afib, a stent,a faulty heart valve and said she can't move. What can I do?

She had a major stroke from a clot on her right side, she's on a feeding tube- been in rehab once, now again, has gotten thru septic with a urinary infection sfter being given lots of antibiotics, now has C-Diff infection- on flagl- in rehab until her HMO stops paying- she has dementia, cannot talk well or understand much, they take her from the bed to a wheel chair, and do everything for her. She hasn't responded much to rehab- she managed to say-"get me outta here " the other day- and "I can't move, I'm in a box" in a few lucid moments over a few days. I just don't know what to do. Please someone give me advice.

My mom is 86 has dementia and other major health problems. She has become obsessed with things at night the latest demanding underpants with no elastic. Of course we tried everything to please her but without elastic well you know what will happen. We laugh alot about the big underpants but are physically worn out from lack of sleep. Do we need to look at medication that will make her sleep? She is on lots of pills takes a sleeping pill - we hate to add another pill. 3 sisters trying to please mom.

Eyerishlass is right. You can't take care of her easily - or at all - when her needs are so great.

Can you get a second opinion that they are giving her the correct treatment? Her condition sounds pretty serious, and maybe she won't make it. That might be a blessing. Sorry, and I hope I'm wrong, and she pulls through.

It sounds like your mom needs around-the-clock care. In addition to her immobility she has dementia and infections. One person (you) cannot take all of that on, it would be physically impossible. She needs staff. Would she qualify for Medicaid so she can live in a nursing home?
