Do my parents have to lose their home to receive long term care at a veterans home?

Dad is 89 War World II veteran. Mom has Alzheimer's. They have a mobile but little else. Will they loose their home to veterans affairs for care?

From what I understand, if one of your parents goes into the vets home, the other can remain in their home. If both parents need to go into the vets home, the home would be considered part of their assets to pay for care. However, if the home is put in one of the adult children's names, they could avoid losing their home - but this has to be done at least 7 years in advance of the elderly parents going into the vets home. You should contact your local Medicaid office for more specific information. Laws change from time to time, so be sure of the current regulations.
