What is Board and Care and does Medicare pay for it?

Hello,

My mother who is 88 years old will soon be discharged from a Skilled Nursing Facility after being there for three weeks.

She is still very ill and disabled and she cannot take care of herself.

The staff at the Skilled Nursing Facility told me that since she needs nursing assistance around-the-clock, the only place she can now go to is a “Board & Care” facility.

Would Medicare pay for “Board & Care”?

Is a “Board & Care” facility the same as a “Long term Care” facility?
